"The magical tradition affirms that
the universe is one, and that no part of that universe is
in essence separate from any other part." - W.E.Butler,
"Magic: Its Ritual, Power and Purpose"
Alchemy
is usually linked with the pursuit to transform base
metals, such as lead, to gold. Some feel that alchemists
actually pursued spiritual transformation; the chemical
procedures were meditative focal points for the projection
of the unconscious.
The term alchemy derives from the
Arabic alkimya, which translates as "black
stuff" (alternately interpreted as the rich mud
of the Nile and as the black powder produced from
mercury in metal processing techniques employed in
ancient Egypt). Many of the secrets of alchemy, both
the scientific and hermetic-magical, has its roots
in Egypt. Thebody of work known as the Corpus Hermeticum
was |
|
attributed to the Egyptian magician Hermes Trismegistus, and
Neoplatonists believed that Plato recieved secret magical
initiation in Egypt.
When one reads the antique texts of the alchemists, the meanings
seem obscure or indirect at best.
SPAGYRICS WORKSHOP
During
the workshop, formal instruction in basic and advanced
techniques of spagyrics will be offered. Spagyrics
(spa-gîr-iks) is a Greek word meaning to separate
and recombine. Spagyrics was the basis of Paracelsus’
work, and he is often considered its father. The spagyric
process is a three-fold process of separation, purification,
and cohobation (reunion of the purified parts). During
the process, the essences of the substance are exposed
and reborn under planetary influences. The spagyric
product is considered to be at a higher level of potency
able to effect not only the physical body but also
the underlying or spiritual cause of disease. |

In the class this art will be performed
upon the plant kingdom for the formation of a spagyric plant
tincture for its healing and initiatory powers
This seminar teaches laboratory techniques
and methods of alchemical experimentation. You will actually
perform experiments that demonstrate all the basic operations
of spagyrics. You will also learn how to create your own
tinctures, oils, and elixirs charged with the energy of
transformation and healing.
The class covers two forms of Alchemy,
the first is the egyption art of spagyria which can be carried
out with minimum investment of equipment, the second involves
a more modern approach using modern alchemy equipment.
The workshop will be 2 full days, and include handouts,
2 large Alchemy Labs avaliable, detailed instuction and
hands on experiments. You will be indepthly involved in
every stage of the alchemical process from start to finish.
You will leave this workshop with a solid foundation in
Alchemical language, process, and technique. This workshop
will lead even the beginner or novice to an understanding
in Alchemical arts in which you can begin practicing and
further research on your own.
