The problem in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is the word, “programming.” Even some of the most effective self programming methods are short lived or even when successful, they usually are not complete. How you ever known a person who quit smoking cigarettes for several years, and even though they are a non-smoker, they occasionally reach for a cigarette? Some would say that this is a successful programming change, but in fact, that’s all it was – a programming change; there was no deep alchemical transformation. In essence the person is still a smoker choosing not to smoke based on higher value systems. Think of the person who loses 30 lbs to regain 60 pounds a few years later. Most of us can think a favorite television personality who fills the screen one day, and is slender and fit the next.

Again, re-programming works on the human mind for only a short period of time. Even the brain washing performed in Nazi prison camps during WW2 had limited effect once people could be shown a mirror of their behavior. Then there is the person who for a short time acquires great wealth only to be broke and living old habits a few short years later. The key is alchemy. The ancient alchemists expressed various secrets and formulae for turning base metals into gold. We’re not talking about taking lead and spray painting it gold so that it can function as gold for a short time in the world. We are talking about deep, mental, emotional and spiritual changes that are permanent and lasting; base lead into real gold. The process is called transmutation or when talking about human beings it is called transformation.
